This time we will introduce
a smart canteen that refreshes dining experience.

Founded at the end of the last century, Huaishao School, a nine-year school with 27 classes in Jiading District, Shanghai, has a history of more than 20 years. Its teaching quality consistently ranks among the best in the district and has been recognized by the government several times, and it has established academic co-construction relationship with the High School Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Huaishao School actively responds to the Education Informatization 2.0 plan, and has completed the digital transformation and upgrading of campus administrative affairs and student score management system. The school catering management, another key part of campus informatization construction, which is related to the healthy growth of students, has been put on the agenda.

The canteen on the first floor provides meals for faculty, while the second floor, which can accommodate about 700 people, serves students. In order to avoid gatherings during the epidemic, canteen staff deliver meals and retrieve plates for students in grades 1-5, while students in grades 6-9 dine in the canteen one class after another.
The canteen was faced with pain points as below:

Low dining satisfaction caused by the changeless menu.
Students usually forgot their cards, raising the labor costs of the canteen.
Weak stock management due to a lack of data-based preparation and analysis as well as poor capability in food origin tracking.

Using the mini program provided, parents can in advance customize weekly meal plan for their children according to preferences and nutrition needed. Additions can be made to combos, making more options available.

Students can tap their cards using the SUNMI K2 Smart Kiosk Terminals on the first and second canteen floors to check the meals ordered online and go to the right pickup windows, and if they forgot to bring cards, they can simply enter their class and student number to get a ticket, which can then be used to get a fixed combo, thus the dining speed has been greatly improved.

Just a tap of card, or a scan of ticket using SUNMI Blink ScanBox, students can check their combo details on the customer display, while staff can tap on the main display to get the combo ready for pickup. Compared with the traditional process, the efficiency has been increased at least five times.
The queue moves quickly: a student only stop for less than 2 sec for pickup.

Despite that faculty still need to order dishes on-site, the checkout efficiency has been increased 30% thanks to the user-centric UI and smooth operations enabled by RUZHOU and SUNMI’s products.

Different from traditional catering management system, RUZHOU added a big data analytics feature to the system, with which the management team can accurately know the purchase, sales and stock level without spending much time on data work.

Wrapping Up
To support the Education Ministry’s efforts in cutting the “twin pressures”, Huaishao School plans to implement flexible after-school services and the canteen will provide suppers for students and the faculty.
